CCA Confederation of Chess for the Americas
The continental governing body of American chess — the umbrella for federations across North, Central, South America and the Caribbean.
The Confederation of Chess for the Americas was founded in 2002 as the unified continental body for chess across North, Central, South America, and the Caribbean — replacing several earlier overlapping arrangements that had fractured the region’s representation in FIDE. The CCA covers 39 federations spanning the United States, Canada, Mexico, all of Central America, the Caribbean island nations, and all of South America.
The Events
The CCA’s flagship events are the American Individual Chess Championship (FIDE World Cup qualifier), the Pan American Team Championship, the Pan American Youth Championships, and the Pan American Continental events. Continental rankings are dominated by the United States (Caruana, Nakamura, Wesley So, Naroditsky), Canada, Cuba (historically), Mexico, Brazil, Peru, and Argentina.
