SuperUnited Croatia is the rapid-and-blitz combined leg of the Grand Chess Tour held annually in Zagreb. The 2026 edition is scheduled for July 4 to 11 at the Westin Zagreb. The format combines nine rounds of rapid (15+10) with eighteen rounds of blitz (3+2) over a single week — one of the most exhausting calendars in elite chess.

Players score two GCT points per rapid game and one per blitz game, with the event total weighing into the season-wide Grand Chess Tour leaderboard. The intensity of the format means short tactical errors decide far more games than at classical events; the world’s strongest blitz players — Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave — tend to dominate the field even when rated below the classical-only entrants.

The 2024 edition was won by Carlsen with one of the highest performance ratings of his career; the 2025 edition was won by Nakamura. The 2026 edition’s confirmed field and pairings will be released by the GCT organisers in June 2026.

The Westin Zagreb has hosted the event since 2019. Croatian chess sponsorship through SuperSport and Croatian government tourism initiatives has made Zagreb one of the most reliably-funded annual chess events in Europe.
